1. They were brought to France in the 1500s by Catherine de’ Medici, introducing this delicate treat to French pastry culture.
2. Paris made them famous, especially with iconic bakeries like Ladurée turning them into the elegant sandwich cookies we know today.
3. They’re naturally gluten free, made with almond flour, egg whites, and sugar.
4. Macarons are extremely sensitive to weather, especially humidity, which can affect their texture and rise.
5. Macarons are not macaroons. While macarons are delicate French sandwich cookies made with almond flour and filled with ganache or buttercream, macaroons are typically coconut based with a dense, moist, chewy texture.
