🦞 BE IN THE KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! READ ALL ABOUT THE CURRENT CRAWFISH CONDITIONS AS WE ENTER INTO LATE SEASON!🦞
We’ve reached the point of the season with complaints of improperly washed or “dirty” crawfish. According to the LSU AgCenter, algae or dark, "dirty" spots on crawfish in late season are harmless, non-toxic growth of microorganisms (ectocommensals). These grow when older, mature crawfish stop molting. Typically presents as dark, muddy, staining, often on the underbelly. No amount of washing can remove the staining! The algae are not harmful to humans and do not affect the taste or safety of the meat. Just know, it’s just nature doing its thing!
