Congratulations to one of my favorite people, she is the joy in every room, the laughter in every thing silly and a really good egg. She has supported me through my chef journey on the island and I’m so proud of her accomplishments. Today she received her Master’s Degree From the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Public and Population Health. Bravo Heidi!!!

I’ve bragged about my son and his high school bbq team The Swamp Smokers with Dickinson FFA. Mattox has turned in two first place ribeyes the last two competitions. They head to state in a couple weeks and I can’t wait to see how they do on their way to nationals. 🥩
The team is always looking for sponsors, please reach out if you’re interested in helping this program offset their costs.
By the end of the day, after chicken, ribs, steak, gourmet grilled cheese and Dutch oven dessert have all gone before the judges, the team is usually back on the highway headed home — tired, smoky and a little more seasoned than when they left.

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since my episode of Cutthroat Kitchen aired on Food Network! Your favorite enchilada hopped her way to the final table where Chef Jett Tila sent me home for my concrete custard. It was such a cool experience and it led me being able to say “finalist on Food Network”. Meeting Chef Alton Brown was as cool as one would imagine. Did you watch the episode 10 years ago?
