From September 22–24, Houston City Hall will light up gold in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Earlier this month, all Texas Children’s campuses were also lit gold to mark the occasion.
ℹ️ Cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death in children and adolescents. Every day in the U.S., approximately 45 children are diagnosed—and around 5 lose their lives to the disease.
At Texas Children's Hospital, we’re proud to be ranked among the top pediatric cancer centers in the country. Our teams work tirelessly alongside families and community partners to move us closer to a future where every child has a cure.
Thank you to Special Events, City of Houston for helping raise awareness for this important issue.

The long term effects of the cancer journey on PARENTS is staggering. The trauma from what we seen, the fears we have faced, the real life nightmare we could never wake up from...to say having a kid with cancer “changed us” is the greatest understatement. It changes our DNA. Forever impacts the lens through which we see the world. And mental health support services for parents during and after treatment are shockingly absent. We need better care for PARENTS, too!

Let’s take a moment to remember the children who won’t be going back to school this year.
Some are in hospital beds.
Some are in treatment.
And some — heartbreakingly — are no longer with us because of childhood cancer.
Their absence is felt deeply in classrooms, lunch tables, and playgrounds everywhere.
Let’s honor them by fighting for more research, more cures, and more time. 💛
