When ESSENCE Magazine featured my story, I had to revisit one of the most difficult seasons of my life.

At 41, I was raising four daughters, running a growing catering business, and doing everything I could to keep up with the demands of life and entrepreneurship. I thought the chest pain, exhaustion, and shortness of breath were simply stress and anxiety.

I was wrong.

What I didn't know was that I was living with a genetic heart condition that would lead to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure.

Sharing this story wasn't easy, but I chose to because I know so many people are carrying heavy responsibilities while pursuing their dreams. Sometimes we're so focused on taking care of everyone else that we forget to listen to what our own bodies are telling us.

Through it all, my faith, my family, and my passion for serving others kept me moving forward.

Today, I'm grateful for every opportunity to do what I love and create memorable experiences through LA Browns.
