THE LEGENDARY PO’ BOY STORY 🦐
Born in 1929 New Orleans during a streetcar strike, the Po’ Boy sandwich has a heartwarming origin. Brothers Bennie and Clovis Martin, former streetcar conductors turned restaurant owners, served free sandwiches to striking workers - their “poor boys” who couldn’t afford a meal.
What started as an act of solidarity became a NOLA icon! These generous sandwiches on crispy French bread were stuffed with fried seafood, roast beef, or whatever the Martins had on hand.
At Lucy’s, we honor this beautiful tradition with our loaded Po’ Boy - crispy buffalo shrimp, fresh lettuce, tomato, and ranch on the perfect bread. Every bite connects you to nearly a century of New Orleans soul and generosity.
