1929 Po Boy Kitchen is proud to announce the upcoming launch of a new children’s book series starring ROUX, our beloved red 1929 streetcar mascot.

Created to entertain, educate, and inspire young readers, the series will blend engaging storytelling with lessons about history, family, kindness, community, New Orleans culture, and the traditions that continue to shape the stories we share today.

The first book will take readers back to 1929, where Grandma and Grandpa Roux introduce little ROUX to the history of the New Orleans streetcar strike and the story behind the poor boy sandwich.

This project is especially meaningful to us because it allows 1929 Po Boy Kitchen to extend beyond the dining room and create something families can enjoy together for generations.

And yes… ROUX has already been told he is officially a “book star.”

We may never hear the end of it. 😂

We look forward to sharing more details, artwork, and adventures as this exciting new chapter develops.

From the kitchen to the bookshelf, ROUX is ready to make a little history of his own. 📚❤️

The countdown is ON! 💍❤️ 30 MORE DAYS!

In just 30 days, my son will marry his beautiful future wife in a beautiful beach wedding in Galveston! 🌊🤍 I still can’t believe how fast this moment is coming. Watching them prepare for this next chapter has me so excited and so proud.

And what makes their story even more special is that they met on a cruise five years ago… and now, after they say “I DO” on the beach in Galveston, we’re all getting back on a cruise together and heading to the Bahamas! 🚢🏝️❤️

Talk about a full-circle moment! From meeting at sea, to a beach wedding, to cruising off together as husband and wife five years later. 💍

And I’m proud to share another exciting milestone — Jessica has officially been promoted to Front of House Manager at 1929 Po Boy Kitchen! 👏🏽💜💚 She’s not only becoming part of our family, she’s growing right alongside our family business, and that makes this season even more special.

A wedding, family, love, new beginnings, and a whole cruise full of memories waiting to be made. We are SO EXCITED!

30 days and counting! Let the wedding countdown begin! 💍🥂🌴🚢

Now y’all know why I named it 1929.
💜💚💛

It was never just a cute name. 1929 means something to me.

That year, more than 1,000 New Orleans streetcar workers went on strike. When those workers were struggling, the Martin brothers—former streetcar workers themselves—stood beside them and helped feed them.

And 1929 was also the year the stock market crashed and America entered the Great Depression.

Wall Street and the working streets of New Orleans may have seemed like completely different worlds, but hardship has a way of bringing people together who might never have crossed paths otherwise. Rich, poor, working class—people were reminded that at the end of the day, we all need one another.

For me, that is what 1929 represents.

Community.
Sacrifice.
Resilience.
People feeding people.
People standing beside one another when times are hard.

And from that New Orleans streetcar strike came the story of the “poor boy” — the po-boy. 🥖⚜️

That history inspired me to name our restaurant 1929 Po-Boy Kitchen—to honor the people who struggled, the people who sacrificed, and those who never made it through those difficult times.

I wanted their story to live on in our name.

So when you see 1929, just know…

It’s more than a sandwich.
It’s history.
It’s resilience.
It’s community.
And it’s love. ❤️

They had traffic stopping, people running out to their balconies, and you already know Mama Mo was dancing in the streets! 😂💃🏽

What a beautiful surprise to come home to!
