75 years of love celebrated at Atria Tanglewood!
Rita and Leon, Brooklyn natives, have been married since 1941. What's their secret?
“You respect each other, and if there’s a rough spot, just make sure it doesn’t last too long,” Leon says. “You can’t carry any baggage.”
Rita agrees. “If you have an argument, you've got to make up before you go to bed,” she says. “Just before the day is over, make amends…and go to sleep with a clear head.”
A deployment to Korea, three kids and seven grandkids later, these two love birds are happily living just a train ride from where it all began.
“We’ve been spending many years together, and it’s been a good life. Being on Long Island is one of the best places to live,” Leon says.
Their anniversary was covered by their local paper! Read their interview: https://birdeye.cx/1ordkx

Tony is 100!
This WWII veteran entered the Army at 18 and served in Burma, India and China. After 37 years of service, he retired to devote more time to his family and church.
What is his advice for living a long life? "Find your soulmate early so you'll have plenty of time together!" (We're not crying, you're crying!)
Tony married his beautiful bride, Izona, in 1949. Three sons, three grandkids and seven great-grandkids later, they're getting ready to celebrate their 77th wedding anniversary in July at Atria Grapevine.
Join us in wishing sweet Tony a very happy 100th birthday! 🎉

On the Friday before Memorial Day, we wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation’s uniform. The red poppy has been a symbol of sacrifice since World War I, representing remembrance and gratitude for those who served and gave their lives for our country. ❤️

On his 97th birthday, Mehdi shared one wish left on his bucket list: to honor his beloved wife Kaye in the bluebonnets, her favorite place.
With the Engage Life team at Atria at the Arboretum and Halcyon Home, LLC by his side, he returned to the fields filled with memories. To his surprise, an artist had been commissioned to incorporate Kaye’s ashes into a beautiful painting of the bluebonnets, allowing her to forever rest in the place she loved most.
As they raised a toast and reflected on their life together, Mehdi said, “This is the best day of my life.”
"It was an honor to be part of such a meaningful moment," shares Sophie Kluthe, the community's Executive Director. 💙

Meet Mark, one of baseball’s biggest fans.
He’s followed the Dodgers since they were the Brooklyn Dodgers and had the incredible experience of watching Jackie Robinson play firsthand.
On Jackie Robinson Day, Mark proudly wore his memorabilia while sharing stories with residents and employees at Atria North Point. It’s a day that honors the first African American to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier, changing the game and the country forever.
For Mark, it’s more than a tribute. It’s history he lived and continues to pass on. ⚾️💙

We believe that people belong together, and nothing proves that more than seeing the joy that comes when new friendships form! Meet Ming and Grace, two friends who met when Grace toured Atria Evergreen Valley, bonding instantly when they realized they were both native Chinese speakers.
"I can talk to her about everything and anything, from my present time to my past," shares Ming. "It feels good that she is not only my neighbor, but also like my older sister. I don't call her Grace – I call her sister."
The two are now inseparable, exploring the Bay Area during excursions, sharing their love for art and shopping and attending Social Series events.

The Men's Club at Atria Tamalpais Creek enjoyed a beautiful outing in Sausalito – walking along the beach, watching the boats pass by and sharing lunch at The Lighthouse bar and grill.
Bob, a new member of the group, says, "This was my first excursion to Sausalito, and it turned out to be everything I had hoped for. There were five other men, and it was a congenial group. We each did our own thing at times, but there was also space to connect and have conversations along the way."
Bob enjoyed talking with Ray, connecting over both having spent parts of their childhoods in Sacramento. It was a bright, relaxing day filled with fresh air, wonderful views and great conversation.
"There’s always something different going on," Bob adds. "I truly appreciate the creativity of the programs at Tamalpais Creek, and the way clubs are thoughtfully led based on residents’ interests. That attention to what people enjoy – and the opportunity to be part of it – is, to me, the best part of living here."

Each Atria resident brings something unique to their community!
Meet Kurt, a resident at Atria Maplewood Place who's never met a frog statue that he didn't like. A graphic designer by trade, he is a former employee of Harvard's print shop and design department. A creative spirit who hates routine, he loves new wave music like Depeche Mode and Siouxsie and the Banshees and is a self-proclaimed "human work in progress."
We love that Kurt travels to the beat of his own drum and has made his frog-filled home at Maplewood Place.

"The Styrofoam Blues' never sounded so good!🎶
The resident-led Sustainability Committee at Atria at the Arboretum turned recycling education into a show-stopping performance! Along with a reminder of what materials can be recycled, the residents sang “The Styrofoam Blues” – a soulful reminder that clean Styrofoam can now be turned in at a station on every floor. From there it will be taken to a specialized drop-off location and reused.
From catchy lyrics to community action, these eco-champions are proving that going green can be fun, musical and full of heart. 💚
