🌼🥂 The Wine of the Week: 2022 San Marzano “Edda” Bianco Salento IGP 🥂🌼
This week at Hendley Wine Co., we’re heading to sunny Salento, Puglia—the gorgeous “heel” of Italy’s boot—for a white wine that is rich, fresh, coastal, and seriously charming. ☀️🇮🇹
Meet Edda, a beautiful Bianco Salento from San Marzano, made mainly from Chardonnay with native Puglian white grapes like Fiano and Moscatello Selvatico. Think of it as Chardonnay with an Italian accent: familiar, elegant, and just a little unexpected. 😉
Puglia has been making wine for thousands of years, shaped by ancient Mediterranean trade, Greek settlers, Roman influence, and generations of growers who learned how to work with sunshine, sea breezes, and warm southern soils. Today, this region is loved for wines that are generous, expressive, and full of personality—and Edda is such a delicious example. 🌊🍇
And the grape story is just as fun! Chardonnay may be famous around the world, but here in Puglia it gets a southern Italian glow-up. It brings roundness, peachy fruit, and creamy texture, while the native grapes add freshness, florals, and a little coastal lift. The result? A white wine that feels both luxurious and refreshing. ✨
In the glass, Edda is straw yellow with golden reflections, with aromas of white flowers, peach, delicate vanilla, lychee, melon, lavender, and ripe stone fruit. On the palate, it’s medium- to full-bodied, supple, peachy, and elegant, with fresh acidity, soft oak and lees texture, and a mineral, savory finish.
🍑 Tastes like: peach, white flowers, lychee, melon, vanilla, and sunshine
🧀 Pairs with: seafood, shellfish, vegetarian appetizers, creamy cheeses, fish dishes, and starters
🥂 Perfect for: Chardonnay lovers, Italian white wine fans, seafood night, date night, or anyone who wants something rich but still fresh
Serve it chilled—but not ice cold—around 48–52°F so all that peach, vanilla, and beautiful texture can shine. 🌟
Come see us at Hendley Wine Co. for a tasting or a glass of our Wine of the Week. Edda is elegant, coastal, and totally sip-worthy—the kind of white wine that makes you say, “Okay, I’ll have one more.” 😉
