Every Recipe Has A Story 🎉

Happy Wednesday everyone! As some of you saw this weekend, I had Trini food for the first time and decided that I wanted to highlight my favorite dish thus far from the experience, Doubles 😮‍💨🔥

Doubles are a common street food in Trinidad & Tobago of Indian origin. This dish consists of two baras (fried flat dough) and filled with curry chana (chickpeas) topped with various chutneys. It is believed that this dish originated from a northern Indian dish called Chole bhature. A lot of Trini food had Indian influences as many indentured servants came to the island from India during the mid 19th century after the “liberation” of African slaves to help with the agricultural labor shortage.

For me, my girlfriend’s great grandfather was from the island and she often shares with me stories of him and their relationship! However, she never had Trini food either! This week, she received a new job offer and I thought the perfect way to celebrate was to go out and try Trini food for the first time! Shoutout to for the amazing experience! If you are in Houston definitely go show them some love. Amazing owner and phenomenal food 🔥
