Verdine

Verdine Verdine was a vegetarian and vegan restaurant located on W 19th Street, Houston. It offered gluten-free, health food, and plant-based menu options with counter and full-service dining. Originally known as Ripe Cuisine, it began as a farmers market stand and grew into a food truck before expanding to a brick-and-mortar establishment in 2018. Despite its innovative twists on traditional vegan cuisine, Verdine has closed its doors permanently.

The Saga of the 1-star reviews continue.... They are now "doubling down" on their threat as we received this latest email

"We can keep doing this indefinitely. Is $75 worth more to you than a loss to the business? We realize that what we are doing is illegal and unfair. But we have no other choice. Let's just close this matter positively and forget about each other.
Best regards [email protected]
Unfortunately, our email address has changed. [email protected] is no longer relevant.
The current email address is [email protected]
If you've already sent a gift code, please duplicate it to [email protected]
And yes, we are continuing our work."

I assume the local and national press has made then switch email accounts, and at this point I know our restaurant is one of many in Houston, and nationwide, that are being affected by this scam.

BUT y'all have shown up in a major way for us - we have double the amount of 5-star reviews (left by y'all in response to this illegal activity) than we do of the fake 1-star reviews and that feels pretty great 🌟 We know those are truly the reviews which define us and we couldn't be prouder.

We appreciate everyone's continued support. The link to leave us a review is here:

We’ve recently been targeted by fake accounts attempting to blackmail us by requesting money in exchange to stop leaving us false 1 star Google reviews. The individual(s) behind this extortion attempt have already left 12 one star reviews in less than a week. We received the following email - twice from 2 different Gmail accounts - which has been been reported to Google as phishing (scam). All reviews have also been flagged by us as spam & we hope Google removes them quickly, but have heard from other restaurant owners who have gone through this exact scam that it is a very slow process by Google (if they ever even do anything about it).

If you’ve never left us a positive review, we could use it more now then ever to combat these fake ones! Thanks for supporting us 🤗

What people say

Vegetarian and vegan restaurants have become increasingly popular in recent years, and Verdine in Houston is a prime example of why. This health food restaurant offers delicious plant-based meals that are both locally sourced and seasonally inspired. The owner and natural foods chef, Stephanie Hoban, has a mission to bring healthy, whole, plant-based, and organic ingredients with global influences to Houstonians.

Verdine's menu is approachable and casual, with made-from-scratch veggie burgers, creatively stuffed sandwiches, hand-cut sweet potato fries with housemade ketchup, weekend brunch options, and a rotating assortment of weekly specials. The food is not only healthy but also incredibly delicious.

In 2018, Ripe Cuisine expanded to become Verdine - Houston's only premier fast-casual vegan restaurant offering lunch, dinner, bar bites, brunch, beer and wine, and patio seating. Located at 449 W 19th St in the Heights area of Houston between Shepherd and Yale streets. Verdine has quickly become a favorite among locals who appreciate the quality of the food as well as the welcoming atmosphere.

Overall, Verdine is an excellent choice for anyone looking for healthy yet tasty vegetarian or vegan cuisine in Houston. With its focus on locally sourced ingredients and innovative twists on traditional vegan dishes combined with exceptional service makes it stand out from other restaurants in the area.
