Our halva went viral on social media recently, and for good reason!
Have you ever tried our fresh, housemade halva? The dense, sweet confection is made from ground sesame seeds and is characterized by a crumbly, fudgy texture and nutty flavor. We have traditional 7-layer halwa AND marble halva - made fresh right here at the deli!

Summer arrives Monday, June 1 when the Gruber family’s Chilled Hungarian Sour Cherry Soup returns to the menu! 🍒
Long considered one of the most popular dishes at the deli, the famed sweet and sour and cold soup disappeared from the menu last fall as the weather cooled. Now with summer inching closer, the refreshing, cold, creamy soup will be back on the menu, available by the cup ($6.95) or the bowl ($12.95) all summer long. The soup recipe, a time-intensive and flavor-filled one, is a family classic from Delimaven Ziggy Gruber, whose family came from Hungary in the early 1900s. Save the date! 🥄

Today is the final day of our Mazel & Mole menu! Our special à la carte menu features a number of Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes with a Jewish twist, including the Matzoquiles! The dish is a twist on Mexican chilaquiles served as Jewish comfort food, made with brisket from our deli, salsa roja, crispy matzo, shredded cheddar, queso fresco, avocado, and an egg any way you like it. Eat cake for a cause!
Starting Friday, May 1, our famed Kenny & Ziggy’s baseball cake gives a charitable helping hand to Just Amazing Youth Sports. For every one of our baseball cakes sold or slice thereof in the month of May, Just Amazing Youth Sports, also known as J.A.Y.S., will receive a portion of the price to help the non-profit give kids with special needs the chance to participate - cost free - in various sports. The non-profit will receive $1 for every slice sold and $5 for every whole cake.
The Kenny & Ziggy’s baseball cake is a towering three-layer cake shouting our local team’s colors. Dark orange and light orange layers of rich, moist cake highlight the top and bottom while a third navy blue layer fills the center. These layers are topped and then encased in vanilla Italian butter icing.
The cost is $10.95 a slice (big enough to share) or $55 for a whole cake (which can feed about a dozen people). Whole cake orders should be made 24 hours in advance to ensure availability. GO TEAM CAKE!

Ziggy Gruber and the Kenny & Ziggy’s team was recognized today by Preservation Houston during the first ever Savoring History Celebration! The deli received a special honor for Community Impact, and was joined by 27 other landmark restaurants who were recognized as Legacy Restaurants. To be surrounded by such iconic establishments that have served the city for decades was an honor, and we look forward to being a part of this cherished community for years to come!
