Happy Birthday to our owner, our fixer, our keeper of “the little things”… and, as we affectionately call him, our janitor: Mike Lopeman!

If you’ve ever walked into The Grape Taste and noticed how clean it is, how everything is in its place, or some tiny detail that was magically taken care of before anyone else even noticed it needed attention... chances are, that was Mike! He gets here early every morning and stays busy until we open. He mops the floors, fixes what’s broken, straightens every tiny thing that’s crooked, details the chairs and tables, and reports every mysterious new scratch, candlewax drip, lightbulb, or misplaced object he discovers along the way.

Around here, we call him the janitor, but the truth is, he’s an owner who has never believed owning a business makes you too important to do the dirty work.
His philosophy has always been simple: “It’s the little things.”
If you know Mike, you know that applies to a lot more than this restaurant.

The squeaky-clean morning glow of The Grape Taste reflects him in more ways than most people probably realize: the attention to detail, the pride in taking care of what you have, the belief that you work hard even when nobody is watching, and the understanding that no job is beneath you when something needs to be done.

To our customers, he’s an owner of The Grape Taste. To us, he’s the guy who will probably read this, notice something that needs cleaning halfway through, and go take care of it.

Happy Birthday, Mike! Here’s to another year of good w**e, good steak, family, and taking care of all those little things.

And from me, your daughter: You’re the greatest man I’ve ever known and the man who has been making sure all of the little things were taken care of my whole life. I love you beyond measure.
