09/02/2020

On March 16, 2020, our world changed. Everyone’s world changed. What now seems like ages ago, the City of Houston made its decision to shut down dining rooms across Harris County due to COVID-19 and its continuing, powerful grasp on our community. Restaurants were only allowed to utilize to-go service and online ordering moving forward. Many stressful decisions had to be forcefully made and their lingering effects are still being felt today. While a difficult blow to adapt to, we, with the tremendous help of our hard-working staff and our incredibly supporting supreme clientele, managed to adapt and put into play a new form of service, which at the time was foreign to all of us.

After almost 6 months later, we are beyond proud to announce that our dining room will finally re-open this upcoming Monday, which happens to be Labor Day, September 7, 2020. That day we will be opening from 11am-3:45pm. We will be closing early to give our staff the opportunity to be with their families in honor and recognition of their hard work and contributions to our restaurant and to this beautiful country. We will be introducing our new forms of protocol and procedures going forward. We are asking for patience and understanding as we attempt to navigate this new “normal” presented in our path. Masks will be required for entry, and must be worn when not seated at the dining tables.

One thing is for sure; our quality and service will be even better than ever before. Being the best means constant improvement in all facets of service. We have reaffirmed with our staff the importance of providing a safe, comfortable, and sanitized environment for our guests and their families.

Bring your appetite. We’ll take care of the rest.

Trae tu apetito. Nosotros nos ocuparemos del resto.

To say that yesterday’s Food Drive was a complete success would be an understatement. We were able to provide roughly 300 grocery packs to OUR community. So many people helped out, with the purpose and intent of only one thing: TO HELP OTHERS.

🇨🇴🇺🇸, a union of Colombian and American restaurants and businesses, started roughly three weeks ago, initiated by our dear friend Christian Cortes of Christian Entertainment. Christian has truly helped lead the charge in helping our community with this endeavor. His team, which included the world famous Toño Munera aka Toño Parilla, were on the front lines, putting the groceries inside the cars along side our team. It was a beautiful sight to behold. The sole purpose was to be able provide groceries and hot, freshly cooked meals for so many families going through tough times during this pandemic.

So many preach positivity, but it’s another thing to actually take action and contribute to it. It’s actually what the world needs more of.

We would like to thank so many people for helping orchestrate this event...

We want to start with Fil Watts, whose contributions, truly elevated this event to the level it reached. He has been our company’s consigiliere and guiding light since this pandemic began.

Secondly, we want to thank our partners, urgencias.abc, Carlos Bernal: Allstate Insurance, Jonny Black Productions. It was an amazing honor to be able to team up with these businesses, spearheaded by true, ALIEF gentlemen: Luis Carmona, Carlos Bernal, and Jonny Black. This is our city and we vowed to help take care of the Alief community in multiple aspects.

A HUGE shout out must go to Aldo Santely,(who almost got ran over about 5-6 times!) Luisa M. Castillo, and Don Luis Eduardo aka Pápá Black! Also, our beloved cousin, David Carmona came through and played a huge roll!

Third, we have to shout out De Mi Fogón, and their proprietors, Dalia Gomez and Nini Diana Gutierrez Gomez. They’re an amazing company, that’s beginning to leave their mark on the Houston food scene, and we personally feel they will be around for a looooooonnnnggg time. They’re just getting started. If you haven’t checked out their products, you are missing out! They make GREAT arepas of all kinds!

A BIG thank you to CORDIALSA USA also for donating 100 goodie bags of Colombian products that we put inside our grocery packs.

Also, to all the Colombian businesses that helped promote this event, as well as the Colombian Consulate of Houston. Never before has this been seen where restaurants promote other restaurants on their social media page. For those that did, we appreciate the gesture, BIG TIME. Teamwork does in fact make the dream work.

And last, we have our La Fogata team: one of our owners, Doña Carolina Carmona, our kitchen manager Sara Rosales, Conchy Salinas, Diego Cardona, Gabby Moreno, Luisa Camargo, Selidey Zeledon aka Chelita, our young’n Anthony Molina, and of course our future Boss, Andrea Filomena Carmona, who at 6 years old, helped packed the hand sanitizer, apples, and bananas into all the grocery packs. Also, our ENTIRE staff for making sure our business was running while we coordinated this event! Without you, none of this is possible. This was done in memory of our beloved , , and .

We are truly a family owned and operated small business. Only one location. No investors or corporate backing of any kind. To be able to help out in this manner is truly a testament to our supreme clientele. It’s BECAUSE of YOU, this was possible. The support you have given us every day since this pandemic began has honestly elevated us to a whole other level. We appreciate the amount of love you have shown, not only having patience with our new “curbside pick up” system we have assembled on the fly, but showing so much love across our Facebook and Instagram pages.

We have been working on multiple projects that we are anxiously awaiting to unveil for you all once this passes. Currently in development we have a YouTube cooking series channel, where we will team up with various chefs and small business owners across Houston and the world for some fun recipes and times, a food Podcast, where we will tell our story from the beginning and also interview a variety of guests on topics related to, of course, food and Colombian culture. And finally, we are working hard on developing our new breakfast menu, our bar menu, our catering menu, and have begun scouting for our new location.

A thousand Thank You’s! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

- Andres Carmona, GM & Co-Owner
