Dear friends, family, and loyal customers,
After much reflection, I’ve decided to retire as a baker, entrepreneur/business owner. I’m incredibly grateful to share that I’ve sold my business to Karma Kolache & Desserts.
What started in my home kitchen in 2012 as a small macaron dream grew into something beyond what I ever imagined. I hustled day and night, made deliveries and met up with customers in shopping centers throughout Houston and sold at farmers markets and pop-ups for the first five years.
With a a lot of faith, I composed a 20-page business plan and presented to several banks and built my first brick-and-mortar from the ground up in Sugar Land. From there, we expanded into wholesale distribution and supplied our delicious macarons to multiple businesses from San Marcos to Galveston and everywhere in between. Not before long, I developed our e-commerce platform, shipped nationwide, and eventually opened a second location in Houston River Oaks.
Fourteen years flew by, working 60 hour weeks with so much passion, sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears.
I’m incredibly proud but also mentally and physically burnt out. Something in my heart has been telling me it’s time for a change. Time moves fast, my boys are already in college, and as I approach 50, I feel the need to take a break, rest, and spend more time with family and friends.
But don’t worry—Mon Cheri Macarons aren’t gone forever! Karma Kolache & Desserts will continue making and selling my signature macarons alongside their delicious kolaches and pastries. Please be patient with us over the next few weeks as we train, merge, and transition.
I feel sad but bittersweet. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting my journey and allowing me be part of your special moments. Your love, loyalty, and encouragement meant everything to me. I’m not sure what I’ll do next but I’m ready for the next chapter.
Love,
Sherry Shao ❤️
