When an owner of a venue invites a caterer out to an open house it is really big deal. They want to put their very best vendors out to potential couples. Our Houston venues work with many wedding professionals and for us to be invited means they think we are one of the best vendors in the city. Thank you so much to Starshine Texas for inviting us out today and choosing us over literally thousands of other caterers. We are honored to showcase our award winning food at your beautiful venue. I want to share a personal story with you today, if you don't mind.
This day, thirteen years ago, my job title changed at Lasagna House. On April 1st, 2013, I went from manager to owner at my favorite restaurant.
I remember telling the staff 13 years ago that I was going to be the new owner and they stared at me with disbelief. It was like they thought I was playing an April Fools Day joke on them.
As many before me and many after me, I gave up a good job, with decent pay and benefits to chase the dream of entrepreneurship.
My wife and I were scared and nervous, and at the same time, excited. We prayed we would have the resources to continue to give back to our community. We prayed for wisdom and insight and perseverance. That we would treat our staff, vendors and guests with love and a welcoming attitude.
Pictured next to me is Alan Smith. He and his brother Jeff owned Lasagna House for 18 years before deciding to pass the baton on to my family and I and I have always sought to make them proud for their decision.
I started coming here as a customer in the 90's and in 2001, I applied for a job here as a server to get a discount on my meals and moved up to manager. Now, I have been a business owner for 13 years today.
A year after I bought it, a fire that started at a neighboring business burnt down the building. As soon as we rebuilt, Hurricane Harvey ravaged our city and then 2020 happened. We dealt with Covid and it has never been a boring moment since.
Our 13 years has been full of challenges. But we have continued to survive thanks to you!
Your love and support mean more than you know and we are eternally grateful for all the friendships we have made. Without you coming in every week with a smile and a kind word, we don't know where we would be. Your generosity has inspired us. Your strength has encouraged us and your prayers have moved us!
I don't want a day to go by that you don't know what you mean to me. Through it all, you have continued to shine brightly and have been a beacon of hope to me, my family and our staff. And for that, we love you!
So, to wrap up this 18 page essay. Thank you! We love you all ❤️
With deepest respect.
Matt
