A quick update! (But kinda long)
Since we closed the restaurant just over 2 years ago, a lot has happened.

We spent the first 8 months liquidating equipment, furniture and anything from the restaurant that we couldn't use on the food truck. It took a while to clear out the storage unit!

All along were remodeling the food truck. Removed the 9 year old wrap and replaced with a sleek paint job and decals. It looks new again. We did some much need engine and mechanical repairs and also remodeled the kitchen.

Next we moved the food truck to new Braunfels, Tx, where I was living in my RV mostly at the New Braunfels RV park with the food truck stored next to me. We re-imagined our menu by doing daily plate specials of our most popular items, like Rouladen, Sauerbraten, Schnitzel and Brats. Serving up our made from scratch German sides (spaetzle, red cabbage, pan fried potato, etc).

We set up in a fabulous location on Landa Street. We were open for dinner 4 nights a week, but unfortunately could never make a profit. We did our best to market our business, but it barely made a difference. The feedback was that our customers really wanted a situation where they could sit and eat the food comfortably on location. Air conditioning, protection from the weather, restrooms and alcoholic beverages were our top requests. Basically, folks wanted to eat these meals in a restaurant and not get them as take out from a food truck, even though we were selling our meals for super cheap.

We gave up after a few months and I was tired of living in an RV. We decided to get a place to live in nearby San Marcos, TX where my 2 girls could live also while attending TXST.

We reverted back to our regular food truck menu and tried to hit the streets, going to schools, neighborhoods and apartments. Again, we just couldn't make a profit. Even times when we had a crowd, it seemed no one in New Braunfels wanted German food. The burger truck and the taco truck next to us were slammed.

We started serving lunch on TXST Campus and finally found success. The students, faculty and staff have showed us much love. At the end of this month and the month of February, you can find us Monday to Thursday serving lunch in the Qaud (heart of campus)!!!

We continue to serve at every Tomball German Fest (every March and December) and this year we were invited to serve at Wurstfest in New Braunfels. Tomball German Fest has always been our Jam and we love everyone there. So much love!

Wurstfest did not turn out so well for us. We ended up in a terrible location, away from all the action and foot traffic in an area where food has never been sold. It was a very nice location to ourselves with many tables in front of the truck, but we just didn't have the foot traffic. Location, location, location. Despite selling half of projections, we did make many new friends and seemed to be well liked by those that found us. They loved the Currywurst and the Schruben for sure.

We have discontinued doing any event that can't guarantee a minimum sales and love to do catering. Unfortunately, these types of events and catering opportunities have yet to emerge.

At this point we are out of ideas. We may continue serving TXST and do festivals mostly until I get too old. A restaurant is now out of the question. Real Estate is way too much $$$ in New Braunfels and I haven't found a partnership with a brewery or bar that works.

In the meantime and in between time, I am honing my skills to be a travel agent. I am very good at building memorable travel experience and hope to help others to see the world and experience new places. I am focusing on booking cruises at the moment, but land based travel to Mexico and Europe will also be my specialty. The goal is to build "come-a-long" trips where I take groups on the trip and make sure they are well taken care of.

I hope you will give me a chance to book your next vacation! You will find me on all the social media platforms AND YouTube. I am working to add tons of content now and I can't wait for it to take off!!!

I am currently working under the guidance of Accent Travel in San Antonio. A family owned independent travel agency with Brick and Mortar. Wonderful company and I am excited to be a part of it.

The list of angels that came to my rescue yesterday and today is long. Incredible humans among us.

First and foremost, Joel Barrios, friend and owner of Bayou Boy Poboys restaurant in Needville, Tx who came immediately when he heard I was in trouble with a broken down pickup pulling a trailer in the middle of nowhere. At 8:30am, it was already hot and without a running engine, there was no air conditioning. He not only towed my truck and attached trailer 30 miles to Universal Automotive in Sealy, but then attached the trailer to his truck and took me and the trailer to the intended destination, San Marcos, 2 hours further. This was not asked for, but rather offered so that I could more easily get past this whole situation.

Jeremy at Universal Automotive in Sealy was next. Said they would be waiting for me to bring in the truck and happy to help me get the problem diagnosed and fixed. By end of the day, they called to let me know it was not as serious as expected and it would be ready to roll by the next morning! Their ratings were very high and they easily lived up to their reputation.

Next was Elias Palmer, who I had asked to help me unload the trailer, kinda last minute and then had to cancel our 10am appointment. I then reached out at noon, when I knew for sure I was going to make it home, and he said he would be there without hesitation. He was so helpful in getting the trailer unloaded, even though it was so hot out, he made it fun.

Now I had come so far, but still had an empty trailer in front of the house and no way to get it turned back in to uhaul. I called the guys at Contigo Auto sales and told them about my situation. Seth Miller, Uhaul area manager offer to come to my home and pick it up!!! I couldn't believe it. Everyone with Uhaul was so friendly and helpful.

And then there was the problem of how to get back to the shop today to pick up my truck. 2 hours away in Sealy, was another big favor to ask. My neighbor and new friend Amanda Shane Fluitt offered to give me a ride to Sealy!!! Thank you Amanda!

I was really stressed when it happened and couldn't imagine how I would get this situation behind me without ruining my entire week. I asked for help and help came. Thank you friends

And Thanks to all of you that offered to help, like Amy Maxwell, John Tankersley, Brian Shaw, Valina Polka and Preston Voosen.

Life can be tough sometimes. It's so much better knowing there are great people out there willing to make it better.

Thank you

A shout out also to Elias Palmer for coming last minute to help get th trailer unloaded today. An upstanding young man. His parents should be proud!

What people say

German restaurants are known for their hearty and flavorful dishes that are sure to satisfy any craving. The Sauer Kraut Grill on Crabb River Road in Richmond is no exception. This authentic German restaurant puts a Texas twist on classic dishes, creating a unique and delicious dining experience.

One of the standout items on the menu is the Jaeger Fries, which can be upgraded for free with the purchase of any adult meal served with fries. The Catfish sandwich is also highly recommended by patrons who have tried it. But if you're looking for something new to try, keep an eye out for their Code 49 item.

The Sauer Kraut Grill also offers daily specials like the Chicken Club Sandwich served with seasoned fries and a small potato soup add-on option. And if you're lucky enough to visit during Maifest, you'll get to enjoy live music from Das ist Lustig while indulging in limited-time offerings like Schweinehaxe.

But don't wait too long to visit - some menu items like the shrimp and potato soup are only available seasonally or for a limited time. And if you're interested in joining their team, they are currently hiring cashiers who are 18+ and welcome those who speak German (though it's not required).

Overall, The Sauer Kraut Grill is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for authentic German cuisine with a Texas twist.
