It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jay Kornhaber, who opened New York Bagels & Coffee Shop with his parents over 50 years ago. Over the decades, Jay’s role in all of our lives grew far beyond that of a founder. He was a constant and steady presence, and to many of us he was family.
Jay wasn’t the face of the deli, but he was the quiet force behind it. When things went sideways, he was who we turned to. Jay was someone you could count on without a second thought, who would step in, figure it out, and keep everything moving like he always did. He showed up, time and again, grounded in a sense of responsibility to others. Jay built a foundation rooted in hard work and integrity. Who we are today is a reflection of Jay and the example he set for all of us. He will not be forgotten, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.
Funeral services will take place on April 30, 2026, at 1:45 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park – Jesse Faye Chapel, located at 2602 S. Houston Ave., Humble, Texas 77396.
We will be hosting a memorial gathering soon at the deli, with details to follow. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
